Not a Morning Person
“This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalms
118:24
I woke up this morning
with this verse (well, the song about it) in my head. What a fitting thing to
be dwelling on in the morning… right? If only I had only appreciated it the way
that I should have.
I will just admit it, I am
not even close to a morning person. Ask my family, my boyfriend or my roommate
and they will quickly (sometimes too quickly) agree with me. I have been
learning something, though, that has been hard for me to swallow.
As I got ready this
morning, I was my normal-cranky-morning-self. I didn’t want to get ready for class.
I didn’t want to put effort into my appearance. I just wanted to be lazy and
lay in my comfy, cozy bed all day long. Here is the problem with that. I may
never enjoy waking up, I know that I won’t. That being said, I have a choice to
make in the morning.
Will I… a) grumble,
complain and be cranky?
Or… b) will I rejoice in
the new day that the Lord has made for me.
Joy will never be an
immediate reaction for me, especially in the morning, but we all have the
choice to choose our attitudes, to choose a spirit of joy and thankfulness,
each and every morning. What are you going to choose today?
“The
steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they
are new
every
morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Lamentations
3:22-23
