For the First Time in Forever
A Fond Goodbye to Winter
Sitting in Creative Writing class today, we had some time to just be quiet and write. I was inspired by the wind coming in through the window and freshening up the whole room. I am going to say it straight up, I am a terrible, mean, crabby person during the winter, so by the time spring comes, I am beyond ready for it. I started to write down my feelings on the season change of winter to spring. I think that there is a negative part of every season and those things tend to get complained about every time there is a change in the weather. The positives of each season far outweigh the negatives, though. Except for winter, winter is just awful. Enjoy!
"There is a certain lull at the end of winter. All of the holidays are over and the cold is no longer welcome. People are to the breaking point, if a Robin doesn't chirp soon, heads will roll. Then, it happens, that one day in March that inevitably will come. That seventy degree day that brings joy to everyone, only to mock them by snowing for the following two weeks. Why don't I just move somewhere tropical, that will surely make my problems go away, right? Oh for the days of complaining about the heat. How I long for those days during this time of depressing death, or as others call it... winter.
That's the magical thing about it, though. We bundle ourselves up for months on end, but that one day finally comes. You wake up to the sound of chirping birds, see the sun flooding your room and... dare you let yourself hope? You open your window to feel a gust of air, breath in the scent of freshness and happiness, and something inside you changes. You start to think like Anna and sing, 'the window is open, so is that door, I didn't know they did that anymore.' It's finally here, allergy season."
Have a happy Spring!
But is winter REALLY gone? One can only hope.
