Metamorphosis
Yesterday I was able to go on a fun adventure with my mom, her friend Becky and her daughter (my friend) Nicole. We went to an antique store in Overton, NE that goes by the name "Tiedes'." I haven't always been a huge antique store person, but my mom had found some really cool things the first time she went there, and I wanted to experience it with close friends. As Saturday approached I grew more and more excited for this new experience.
When we got there, I was slightly overwhelmed. That place is packed full of things and of people. I am glad I went there with seasoned veterans because they jumped right in and started hunting for fun little treasures. I followed suit and jumped on in. By the end of the day my mom and I had both found fun, vintage containers to store our essential oils in and little cups to put our used tea bags in. I was able to find a special mug for my best friend and my mom found many more treasures to put to use in our home (I won't go into detail because I don't want to spoil her blog post about it).
As Nicole and I were digging through some items we kept making comments on different, practical ways we could use each item and marveling at how cool the old pieces were. I turned to Nicole and said, "We are turning into our mothers." She laughed and agreed and we went about our day. It was a really enjoyable time together.
Fast-forward to this evening. My parents were at the annual church meeting (snooze) and we kids were all at home. I walked downstairs after my shower and looked around to find the house in disarray (when the cat's away, the mice will play). I have recently become like my mother in a different way, I LOVE to clean. Never in a million years did any of us think that day would come... anyway, I took it upon myself to tidy up the living room and to load the dishwasher. After that chore was done, I grabbed the all-purpose cleaner and started to clean the counters, then the fridge doors and handles, then the outside of the microwave, then the inside and I finished by vacuuming the floor. I did this all on my own accord and I enjoyed every second of it!
I find it funny the ways I have started changing since getting out "on my own" and spreading my wings. Even now, as I sit and type this post, I am sipping tea and listening to piano music... I really AM becoming my mother! You know, I am 100% okay with being just like her.

Love this! :) The funny thing is ... my mom and I went to Tiede's the weekend before you guys did! She practically dragged me there, but I ended up having a blast looking at all of the old stuff. I even found a "hipster" metal lunch box with pictures of a boy band from the 1970s. Unfortunately, I don't really have a need for a lunch box right now, so I didn't get it. Darn it! Regrets, regrets, regrets...
