Kids These Days
I don't know what brought this post to my mind. Maybe it was the endless amounts of complaining on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Maybe it was the countless and unnecessary selfies that people have posted on Instagram in the last 48 hours. I don't know what it was, but all I know is, the world is changing.
My generation gets a lot of flack for their attention to social media and technology. Here is the straight fact of the matter. Yes, social media is giving this generation a sense of entitlement. Yes, this generation is bombarded with false messages that, in turn, cause them to be very misinformed on the current events of this day and age. Yes, more people are being killed and more teens are becoming pregnant. Yes, all of this could be linked to technology. A technology that has allowed parents to disconnect from their children and not be parents. A technology that has most likely caused more hurt than harm. Sadly, though, this is our reality.
The world is changing, and maybe not for the better. The fact of the matter is, the world will never stop changing. I mean, just look at the past 100 years. So much has changed, and the things that seem innocent to us, seemed like the worst thing possible in the 50's. I'm not saying that I like where our society is headed, because I don't. But I do know one thing.
When WWI was happening, God was there. When Vietnam War veterans were being spit on and cursed at, God was there. When Roe v. Wade was passed, allowing abortion to be legal, God was there. Even now as gangs do drive-by shootings, people are setting off bombs and killing innocent people, and more and more teen girls become mothers, God is here.
History may change, policies may change, culture will change, God won't. That is how we can find hope in a time where the society we live in is slowly becoming more and more secular. NO human has the power to knock God off of His seat in Heaven. Not even the devil himself can overcome the power of the Lord God Almighty. As Christians in a day and age, where God is only, more often than not, a curse word. We can take solace in knowing that our God is the almighty, all-powerful, omnipresent, faithful and just God of the entire Universe. Nothing and no one can take that away. In a time where it seems hopeless, we have something to look forward and cling to. The life we have in Jesus Christ can not be taken by a changing culture and society. In that, I find endless amounts of comfort and security.
"He rules forever by his power,
his eyes watch the nations-
let not the rebellious rise up against him."
~Psalm 66:7 (NIV)~
