If I Could Give Advice to my Freshman Self
I sometimes find myself looking back and thinking, "I wish I would have realized that sooner." I think this about numerous aspects of my high school life. If only I had learned some hard lessons sooner, my experience in high school might have been a little more enjoyable. I have composed a list of ten things I wish I would have known my freshman year. Most of the things on this list were told to me by my mother at some point in time... but you know, teenagers know everything. Anyway, here is my list.
1. When people look down on you it is not your fault, it is their own insecurity.
2. Being the prettiest doesn't matter, especially if you have a bad attitude.
3. Don't worry if you don't have a date to any function, enjoy yourself and let loose.
4. If a "friend" is constantly trying to change who you are... they aren't a real friend.
5. Having a few zits is NOT the end of the world, this too shall pass.
6. That guy that you think you need? He makes a way better friend, be content with that.
7. Just because everyone is doing it doesn't mean you have to (cliche but steadfast).
8. Listen to your mom, believe it or not, she was young once as well.
9. You don't always have to go out, sometimes a night in with the family is a pretty good time too.
10. You don't write your story, God does. If something isn't going your way, let God take control. He
has it more figured out way better than you.
As previously stated, teenagers know everything so I'm sure that even if future me came and told me these things I would probably roll my eyes and say "whatever." Given the chance though, I know I would at least try. All I can do now is be a good role model for younger girls that I know, and show them through my actions that not everything is the end of the world, and that they are amazing masterpieces of God, perfect in His sight.
Oh, and one other thing. Your parents are NEVER trying to ruin your life.
